Release the “Fizzy Beast” from the Can!: "

Ball Packaging Europe, one of the leading beverage can producers in Europe, has come up with a new marketing initiative for increasing the sales of soft drink cans using Augmented Reality with the help of junaio. The project was developed for Edeka Hessenring, a major German supermarket chain, for the new flavor “Cool Cola Orange” of their house own Perquell brand. Every can of the triangular Sixpacks by Smurfit Kappa Baden Packaging can be used as a marker to free the “Sprudeltier” (the “Fizzy Beast”) from inside the can. When holding the smartphone’s camera against the can, junaio recognizes the image of the brand and displays a funny, animated creature, which can be used to take a picture and place it in Facebook for one’s friends to admire.
“The Fizzy Beast promotion attracts attention and presents a real purchase incentive for a young audience”, says Frank Sasse, Retail Director Europe for Ball Packaging Europe.
Reception of the new can at the Edeka Fair in Melsungen was overwhelming, especially among the 12 to 18 year old. Kids were screaming with delight and even older people were hunting for the Fizzy Beast inside the can.
To note: no QR Code is being used. junaio’s image recognition capability uses the product itself as the marker. With this new technique, product marketers can create many distinctive new experiences for their clientele. More fun than advertizing.
